The triggers for melasma are complex and sadly it is a chronic condition. This type of pigmentation is due to internal factors such as changes in hormones, health and stress; as well as external triggers such as change in weather or environment.
For some melasma will fade naturally but for others it can last for years or even for the rest of their lives.

Treatment of this condition is ongoing and requires a very cautious, and slow approach to prevent any post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
